Choosing aircare for smells at home: what to check before buying

Compare filtration, fragrance, evidence and ongoing costs, then decide whether the system fits your home and routine.

Match the product to the job and your routine

Choose home aircare by the job you want it to do, the evidence for that job, and the care routine you can maintain. For lingering smells, check the source first, then compare gas filtration, fragrance, placement and ongoing costs.

EcoBreeze Residential combines a prefilter, activated carbon and your selected fragrance. It does not contain a HEPA filter, and fragrance is included with every Starter Kit and Care Package. Its £160 Starter Kit includes the first filters and fragrance.

Start with the job you want the product to do

Write down the problem in one sentence: “the dog’s corner still smells after the bedding is clean”, “dinner lingers into the evening”, or “I want a scent I enjoy in the hallway”. Those are useful starting points because they describe an everyday outcome you can assess.

An aircare product’s name alone does not tell you whether it filters gases, captures fine particles or adds fragrance. Check its actual filters and intended use. The EPA’s home air-cleaner guide distinguishes particle filtration from gas filtration and treats filtration as a supplement to source control and ventilation.

Check the source before choosing room aircare

A product is easier to assess once you have dealt with the item or location giving off the smell. A dog bed, old accident spot, used pan and food-waste container each need their own cleaning routine.

Use the dog-smell guide for bedding, fabrics and accident checks, or the cooking-smell guide for food residue, cooker-hood care and extraction. Continue the home’s normal ventilation.

If the smell keeps returning at the same fixture or appliance, investigate that source. Buying room aircare does not establish that the underlying issue has been resolved.

Decide whether you want added fragrance

This is a purchase decision to make before choosing a scent. EcoBreeze Residential passes air through a prefilter and activated carbon before adding your selected fragrance. The fragrance is part of every Residential Starter Kit and replacement Care Package.

If you want aircare without added fragrance, this Residential package does not match that requirement. If you do want fragrance, browse the Residential fragrance selection and choose one you would enjoy using in the intended room. The name or fragrance family does not establish suitability for every person or pet.

For the explanation of each stage, read activated carbon, fragrance and ventilation.

Read the evidence as a buying question

Ask: what was tested, with which configuration, against which odour, and in what space?

The original Odournet report: carbon filtration with fragrance disengaged assessed stale-urine malodour in controlled chambers. The original St. Croix report: carbon-only and carbon-plus-fragrance configurations assessed strong synthetic faecal malodour using wall-mounted units at medium fan speed in 2.16 m³ chambers; the fragrance configuration used Tropical Heaven.

These reports provide evidence for their tested conditions. They did not test the freestanding Residential configuration or establish dog-smell, cooking-smell or domestic-room performance. They do not supply a guaranteed result for your room.

Activated carbon also has finite capacity. Its performance depends on the compounds present, the media and air passing through it. The EPA’s technical summary explains these limits. A maintenance plan belongs beside the initial purchase price.

For particle purifiers, CADR is a particle-removal rating. The EPA guide says it does not rate gas removal. Do not use a particle rating or a chamber volume to invent an odour-coverage figure.

Check whether the room and routine suit the unit

The Residential Starter Kit includes its freestanding stand and UK power supply and plug. It needs no fixed installation.

Identify a dry, stable surface with unobstructed airflow. Keep the device away from hobs, heat, grease and splash zones, and route the cable away from children and pets. Follow the supplied placement and safety instructions. Confirm these practical details before ordering rather than assuming any spare corner will suit.

Check that you can reach the unit for care and keep using your usual ventilation and kitchen extraction. The Residential page shows the current placement guidance and servicing routine.

Budget for the kit and its care

The Starter Kit costs £160 including VAT, with free standard UK delivery. It includes the device, stand, UK power supply and plug, and the first Care Package: activated-carbon filter, nanostatic prefilter and your selected fragrance.

A replacement Care Package costs £22 including VAT. Typical home replacement is every 2–3 months, with timing varying by operating time and odour load. Replace the fragrance and both filters together.

At the single-pack price, that interval is equivalent to about £7.33–£11 per month in consumables, excluding electricity and delivery. It is a budgeting comparison, not a monthly charge or subscription. The first pack is already included with the kit.

Current terms and delivery details explain the £2.99 standard delivery charge below £50 and free delivery from £50 for Residential orders. Review the returns and manufacturer-guarantee policy before buying.

Your final buying checklist

  • Have I addressed the source and kept ventilation in the routine?
  • Is everyday odour care the job I want this product to do?
  • Do I want the fragrance that is included with this system?
  • Have I checked the evidence without assuming a guaranteed home result?
  • Do I have a suitable position and an accessible care routine?
  • Have I allowed for replacement packs and any delivery charge?

If those points fit your home, choose your Residential Starter Kit. You can select a different fragrance with your next Care Package.
