Choose the filter and fragrance functions you need
An air purifier can help with household smells if it contains suitable gas-filter media, such as activated carbon. A HEPA particle filter alone does not capture odour gases, and a particle clean air delivery rate does not measure gas removal. An air freshener adds scent; some products combine filtration and fragrance.
Choose EcoBreeze Residential when you want activated-carbon odour care and a fragrance you select in one freestanding home kit. The Starter Kit includes the standard device, stand, UK power supply and plug, and first filters and fragrance. Every Residential kit includes fragrance and has no HEPA filter.
Do air purifiers remove smells?
Some can address odour gases; their filters determine the job. The EPA's home air-cleaner guide distinguishes particle filtration from gas filtration. A product described as an air purifier may contain a particle filter, gas-filter media or both. Check the actual specification before buying.
Start with the item producing the smell and keep suitable ventilation working. The EPA's indoor-air guidance treats source control, ventilation and air cleaning as different approaches. Our household buying checklist links to practical advice for pets, cooking, bins, tobacco and other household concerns.
Compare the jobs before comparing products
| Product or filter | Main job | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Fragrance-only air freshener | Adds a scent | Whether fragrance is the only function and whether you want it |
| HEPA particle filter | Captures airborne particles | Particle-removal evidence and the intended room specification; HEPA alone does not rate gas removal |
| Activated-carbon filter | Adsorbs suitable gases onto the media | Media, airflow, tested compounds and replacement instructions |
| Combined filtration-and-fragrance system | Filters through its stated media and adds scent | Each filter's role, whether fragrance is included and ongoing care |
Product names overlap. A HEPA purifier may also contain carbon, and a fragrance system may also filter air. Compare those components individually rather than assuming the category name describes every function.
Why a particle CADR is not an odour rating
Clean air delivery rate, or CADR, helps compare particle removal. The EPA consumer guide says it does not rate gas removal. A high particle CADR therefore cannot establish that a product will remove more household odour.
For gas filtration, look for evidence identifying the compound, filter configuration and test conditions. Do not convert a laboratory chamber's volume into a home coverage claim. EcoBreeze Residential has no HEPA filter and no published domestic odour room-size rating.
What matters in an activated-carbon filter
Activated carbon adsorbs selected gases onto its internal surface. It has finite capacity and does not capture every compound equally. The EPA technical summary explains why the media, gas, airflow and operating conditions affect performance.
Ask how the filter is maintained and replaced. A carbon filter looking clean does not establish its remaining capacity. Read carbon, fragrance and ventilation explained for the separate jobs of each stage.
When to choose EcoBreeze Residential
EcoBreeze Residential is a suitable choice when your aim is everyday odour care with a scent you enjoy, and you want one supplied kit with a clear replacement routine. Air passes through a prefilter and activated-carbon media before fragrance is introduced.
The Starter Kit includes the standard device, freestanding stand, UK power supply and plug, and first Care Package containing the selected fragrance and both filters. It needs no fixed installation. Choose your fragrance in the Scent Studio, then carry that selection into the Starter Kit.
Every current Residential kit includes fragrance. If your requirement is no added fragrance or HEPA particle filtration, select a system specified for that requirement. EcoBreeze also does not perform extraction, moisture removal or source cleaning.
How to read product evidence
Separate general filtration science from a particular product's test results. The original Odournet report assessed controlled stale-urine malodour with fragrance disengaged. The original St. Croix report assessed synthetic faecal malodour using wall-mounted units, including a carbon-plus-Tropical Heaven configuration.
These are evidence for their tested conditions. They did not test the freestanding Residential configuration or establish performance for domestic rooms, pets or cooking. General EPA guidance explains the technology; it does not endorse EcoBreeze.
Include the replacement routine in your decision
A replacement Care Package costs £22 including VAT and replenishes the fragrance, activated-carbon filter and nanostatic prefilter together. Typical home replacement is every 2–3 months, varying with use and odour load. The first pack is already included in the Starter Kit; there is no subscription.
Check the intended position and access for care before ordering. Keep airflow clear and follow the supplied placement instructions. Continue using the home's ventilation and kitchen extraction.
Make the purchase match your priority
Choose by the function you need: particles, suitable odour gases, fragrance or a combination. Source cleaning remains part of the routine whichever device you choose. If your priority is carbon filtration followed by a chosen fragrance in a complete freestanding kit, choose EcoBreeze Residential. Use the full buyer checklist to review placement, evidence and ownership costs before ordering.
